The Patterning of Hope
Time and space to think and take stock. Learning and applying frameworks and practices in good company with others. Playing your part in the patterning of hope.
In collaboration with futures practitioner and systems thinker Bill Sharpe, this programme brings together the world-leading Three Horizons approach with our Four Pathways to Spirited Leadership.
Designed for those working to transform some aspect of their organisation, community or a wider system, it helps find pathways through complex, uncertain territory.
Note: We expect to run our Patterning of Hope Three Horizons Programmes on a rolling basis. Subscribe to our newsletter to ensure you receive news of future dates.
What can I expect?
You will be invited to bring a live change project and associated challenges to the table. Whatever your focus, we will encourage you to hold the widest possible frame, exploring themes of adaptation, regeneration and collaboration.
Through a combination of facilitator input and highly interactive sessions, you will:
Learn Three Horizons thinking and practices, including how to give equal voice to diverse individual contributions
Build your own Three Horizons map
Develop your narrative and story of change
Learn practices for working constructively with the different voices of continuity and change, catalysing more generative relationships
Distinguish between innovation that sustains the status quo or fosters transformation
Turn insights into action, creating and reviewing next step plans as part of an iterative, experimental approach.
You will learn alongside others seeking to transform their own structures, products, mindsets, policies, processes, practices and/or cultures. We hope you will feel encouraged and supported by sharing experiences and insights, as part of a growing movement of people working to repattern our future.
To help develop your thinking, language and practices through time, you may find it helpful to join the programme with a colleague. We have a fee structure that we hope makes this accessible. Read on to find out more about our pricing and the programme structure.
What format will the programme take?
Starting with a small amount of pre-work and a 30 minute one-on-one conversation about the work you are engaged in, the programme will proceed with 3 x 3 hour online group sessions held over 3 weeks.
Between main sessions, you may wish to apply the tools and thinking that we explore in your community or organisation and we will offer practices to support this. In addition, Bill Sharpe - one of the lead creators of Three Horizons - will join us for two optional 1 hour sessions, providing an invaluable opportunity to receive further input, deepen your exploration and continue developing options for action.
We propose to hold monthly, 1 hour inquiry circles by way of ongoing support for your work and the patterning of hope. The format and timing of these sessions will be agreed as part of the programme.
One-to-one coaching is also available at additional cost. Contact info@leadingthroughstorms.org if this is of interest.
Who will facilitate?
Kirstin Irving and James Barlow will lead the programme. With long-standing experience of consulting within and to corporations and other organisations, and each with their own interests in regeneration, collaboration and community development, Kirstin and James have worked with Three Horizons and with Bill Sharpe for many years. They understand the challenges of transformative change, including what it takes to hold a vision and work with others through messiness and confusion to realise it.
Bill Sharpe is a futures practitioner and systems thinker, helping organisations meet the challenges of a complex and uncertain future. He is known for pioneering the Three Horizons futures practice and is author of Three Horizons: The Patterning of Hope. Bill is a co-founder of Future Stewards, working to build a regenerative future where we meet the needs of all within the means of the planet.
